Wolff rating: GOOD
Plot summary: Young waitress, suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, sort of, goes on a road trip to Los Angeles to marry a soap opera doctor.
Biased, pithy comments: Although this movie works now and then, taken as a whole it's uneven. Zellweger finds some of the right notes in her Betty, and Morgan Freeman simply owns the scenes he's in, and I even grooved to the interaction of the storylines---everyone, most especially Freeman and Betty, is inside their own world of delusions, even soap-opera-y delusions. The production is excellent and the acting wonderful, but the movie can't quite come to grips with its own plot---the character interactions and plot twists sometimes seem forced and the end was, to me, more than a little unsatisfying, although it did tie things up neatly. And is it me, or have we heard about enough philosophizing from hitmen in movies? Your mileage will vary.
Other Notes: DVD comes with hilarious 9 parts of the ``Reason To Love'' soap opera. It really does have a plot and characters, and it's as cliche and silly as it can be. Tons of fun.
