Wolff rating: GOOD
Plot summary: Jack Ryan foils a terrorist plot to kill British royalty, and enrages fringe Irish nationalists.
Biased, pithy comments: Solidly directed, this is an exciting movie as it was an exciting book. An absorbing watch, but it sometimes gets to be a little overpowering with the patriotism and the ``a man has to do whatever he can to save his family'' as well as with the sheer improbability of some of the action. But a good watch, and Ford is probably closer to Clancy's vision of Ryan than Baldwin.
Other Notes: Tom Clancy's book to the side, I found Baldwin a more engaging Jack Ryan, but Ford is, after all, Ford, so he's quite good and more than adequate. The props guy goes nuts in the last scene; ``Have a fire extinguisher. A boat hook. How about an anchor? Anything else you need?''
How many times I have seen it: x3
Starring: Harrison Ford, Anne Archer, James Earl Jones
