Patton(1970)

Wolff rating: GOOD

Plot summary: Epic biography of Gen. George S. Patton, Jr. from his days in Tunsia to the end of the war.

Biased, pithy comments: Scott's classic portrayal of Patton is moving until this day, though in context with the times (i.e. the Vietnam War) is probably a little gung ho about American combat ability. Patton seems a man more likely to shoot first and ask questions later. Investigation implies that Patton was not as bad at politics as he is depicted, but was clearly bad at handling reporters. Intelligent work by Malden paints Omar N. Bradley touchingly as well.

Other Notes: Apparently, Nixon watched this movie twice before deciding to bomb the bejeezus out of North Vietnam.

How many times I have seen it: x1

Starring: George C. Scott, Karl Malden, Michael Bates, Stephen Young, Frank Latimore.
Directed by: Franklin J. Schaffner
