Wolff rating: GOOD
Plot summary: Unscrupulous producers realize that they can make more money making a flop than making a hit, so they set out to make the worst play ever.
Biased, pithy comments: This movie exists solely as an excuse to show scenes from the worst play ever made. I loved those scenes, and the music is surprisingly toe-tapping, if terribly offensive. The rest of the movie isn't quite so strong (some long, not-very-funny shouting scenes are best forgotten), but Wilder and Mostel clown around in a timelessly amusing way. This is one of Brooks' best.
Other Notes: Brooks' cameo in this film is a voice over in one of the dance numbers.
How many times I have seen it: x2
Starring: Zero Mostel, Gene Wilder, Kenneth Mars, Lee Meredith.
Directed by: Mel Brooks
