Wolff rating: EXCELLENT
Plot summary: An anonymous caller is killing teens in this little town, but the caller knows every trick seen in the movies.
Biased, pithy comments: Wes Craven is the director of numerous ``Nightmare on Elm Street'' films and other horror favorites, so directing this tongue-in-cheek teen-killing movie is funny at several levels. The movie is plotted swiftly, the characters all could be guilty of killing, and the cops useless (though Arquette's not-quite-manly-enough deputy is funny); all of these are hallmarks of a good slasher. The jokes, though, are what make it. Non-horror fans who have seen this tell me that the best part of the movie is the last 20 minutes, but I liked the whole thing (being a slasher afficianado). Watch for references to other slasher/horror films throughout.
Other Notes: I recommend seeing ``Nightmare on Elm Street'' part 1 and the original ``Halloween'' first to fully appreciate this film. That's actually Wes Craven wearing the original Freddy costume as the janitor.
How many times I have seen it: x1
