Wolff Movie Index

Sense and Sensibility(1996)

Wolff rating: EXCELLENT

Plot summary: Three young English women's father dies and leaves them penniless, yet in love with various gentry.

Biased, pithy comments: Jane Austen's period novel is brought to shimmering life in this exquisite performance. Though the plot is a familiar story of love, the trappings of aristocratic society in England make it a firey (yet stiff-lipped) romance that stands out as one of the top ``date movies'' of all time. I loved it.

Other Notes: Thompson wrote the screenplay, which nailed her an Oscar.

How many times I have seen it: x1

Starring: Emma Thompson, Hugh Grant, Kate Winslet
