She's All That(1999)

Wolff rating: NOT BAD

Plot summary: ...and a bag of chips! No, really, it's a teen romance. Teen romance. What, you want more? Uh, cool guy has to date loser girl.

Biased, pithy comments: This film knows what it is---froth formula---yet it tries, desperately, not to be what it is. Prinze and Cook have a lot of chemistry, while the rest of the ensemble cast seems up to supporting their odd romance. It's hard to admit such regurgitated drek works, but it's fun---good production, good acting, Hollywood script, and nice direction. What works so well is that no one tries to cover up that Cook is actually pretty; they make her unavailable from how strange and intense she is, while Prinze seems affably pleasant about it all---he has the kind jocularity of royalty. In another century, he's be a prince, not a Prinze. See once, but probably not twice.

Other Notes: Product placement by my own company---Sega! Whoo hoo, marketing boys. The first film I ever watched on my DVD player.

How many times I have seen it: x1

Starring: Freddie Prinze Jr., Rachael Lee Cook, Matthew Lillard, Paul Walker, Jodi Lyn O'Keefe.
