Six String Samurai(1998)

Wolff rating: NOT BAD

Plot summary: Elvis, the King of Lost Vegas, is dead, and every two-bit guitarist/swordsman is heading across the post-nuclear-holocaust desert to make his claim for regency.

Biased, pithy comments: What do you do with this movie? Someone sat down and decided to make what can only be described as ``City of Lost Children For About Ten Dollars.'' With inventive, even brilliant production design, good (but heavy-on-the-slow-mo) cinematography, and some images that just stick with you long after the show is over, you'd think it'd be good, right? Well, it has zero story. As plot-light as ``Lost Children'' was, it has a beat; ``Samurai'''s got nuthin' under the hood, but instead is a vaguely murky metaphor about what can only be described as Buddy's date with death at the hands of. . .well, Death, I guess. Even as I was having fun watching the demented tale of coolness, I was dozing off, having no emotional connection with Buddy or his sidekick (who comes off a little less distant). An art film, but a neat one. Good visuals, terrible plot, so it gets a mixed rating.

Other Notes: Can you make a good movie with no characters? SSS pushes that limit, and it broke for me. Apparently is an extension of a short film made earlier.

How many times I have seen it: x1

Starring: Jeffery Falcon, Justin McGuire, Stephane Gauger.
Directed by: Lance Mungia
