Plot summary: Admiral Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise warp back in time to find whales.
Biased, pithy comments: Though the cast obviously had fun with this one and there are some amusing moments in downtown San Francisco, there are just a couple of too-long moments where Shatner and the 20th century whale scientist are left alone together and we are forced to experience their acting without Nimoy on hand to temper it. Still, it's an even-numbered Trek, so it's good.
Other Notes: Great special effects, and gratuitous use of a Mac plus.
