Wolff rating: NOT BAD
Plot summary: Guy trying to break into Hollywood finds himself without a girlfriend and misererable. However, his feral male friends try to get him to parties.
Biased, pithy comments: This isn't a great movie. It isn't a bad movie, either, but outside of some engaging character acting by Favreau and a few laughs at the shallow Hollywood lifestyle, it's kind of empty, in a I'm-writing-what-I-know way. Clearly, Favreau has been a miserable, lonely guy stuck in Hollywood without a girl and without the skills or the social circle to find a new mate. He's pathetic and an Everyman, but it's hard to get excited over spending two hours following around some guy who isn't getting a date and isn't getting a job. Still, one could have made a much worse movie and, given its independent status, it's fairly well done. But not exciting---sad more than funny, hollow more than uplifting.
Other Notes: Jon Favreau wrote the script as well as starring as Mike.
