Wolff rating: EXCELLENT
Plot summary: American during World War II hides out in the islands controlled by the Vichy government and gets involved over his head.
Biased, pithy comments: Bacall and Bogey fell in love while making this film, and it shows on screen in sizzling dialog and motion. Good story, though Brennan's character is only annoying. My favorite moment was when the head of the Vichy police shows up for the first time; only Darth Vader looks more obviously evil. Bacall is hot.
Other Notes: Screenplay by Furthman (an old, old hand) and William Faulkner.
How many times I have seen it: x1
Starring: Humphrey Bogart, Walter Brennan, Lauren Bacall, Dolores Moran, Hoagy Carmichael.
Directed by: Howard Hawks
