Treasure of the Sierra Madre, The(1948)

Wolff rating: GOOD

Plot summary: Two down-on-their-luck Americans in Mexico hook up with an old miner to go prospecting, both for gold and (it turns out) their own humanity.

Biased, pithy comments: A stark look at what drives poor, desperate men and what banks the fires of greed, this film is a solidly build house with many of the extras. With an Oscar-winning performance by director Huston's father Walter and Holt and Bogey being two different sides of Everyman, this is an affecting film. Definitely take a look.

Other Notes: The American from which Bogey begs is in fact the director. Yes, this is the origin of the misquoted ``We don' need no steekin' badges!''

How many times I have seen it: x1

Starring: Humphery Bogart, Walter Huston, Tim Holt, Alfonso Bedoya.
Directed by: John Huston
