True Romance(1993)

Wolff rating: NOT BAD

Plot summary: Mad-love couple goes to L.A. to make an unsavory deal with unsavory people.

Biased, pithy comments: Welcome to Tarantino's world. Oh, sure, the director directed ``Top Gun'', but this is really Quentin's movie. The story is uneven, and just on the wrong side of believeable (while ``Pulp Fiction'' somehow was so much more engaging), but the dialog is sparkling, the bad guys bad, the good guys not really very good, and Hollywood slime beautifully slimy (yay, Bronson). I can't really recommend it as great, but it's never boring, and the cast---oh, the cast. Though you can occasionally assemble a roomful of fantastic well-knowns and make something pretty lousy, here Hopper, Pitt, Slater, Walken, and even Kilmer (yes, he's in there someplace) are at their best, even if the movie as a whole isn't.

Other Notes: Pitt gets kudos for the most un-Pitt performance yet.

How many times I have seen it: x1

Starring: Christian Slater, Patricia Arquette, Dennis Hopper, Val Kilmer, Gary Oldman, Brad Pitt, Christopher Walken, and Bronson Pinochet.
Directed by: Tony Scott
