Wolff rating: GOOD
Plot summary: Terrorists hold an entire battleship hostage, but a cook and a former Playmate are still loose on the ship and try to save the day.
Biased, pithy comments: Continuing on the theme of three-syllable names for Stephen Segal movies, this one is actually the best of his I've seen. It is interesting, engaging, and would be a perfect spinoff of ``Die Hard'' except that neither of the two leads (Segal and Eleniak) are likeable; the head bad guy (Jones) is much cooler. OK, on second viewing, I'd like to disagree with myself. Eleniak is a cutie, and despiet Segal's hideous delivery, the director was clever enough to show Segal's pleasant, if understated, charisma. Likewise, Busey is great as the perfectly evil XO. If one were to steal a battleship, this is how you'd go about it.
Other Notes: Segal can't act. He just can't. One could write an entire disseration on this film, mining it for its propagandistic value, down to dressing and treating Eleniak as a young boy instead of a woman such that the sanctity of battle is not sullied by a woman's presence.
How many times I have seen it: x2
Starring: Stephen Segal, Tommy Lee Jones, Erika Eleniak, Gary Busey.
