Urban Legends, Final Cut(2000)

Wolff rating: EVIL

Plot summary: Get this fresh idea! Young, pretty people are stalked by a serial killer while making a film about young, pretty people being stalked by a serial killer!

Biased, pithy comments: The predecessor was a fairly amusing, if utterly creatively bankrupt, retelling of the teens-chased-by-slasher story, only with some good leads and a nice pace. As I was watching this sequel, my brain darted around like a little fish, reflexively pointing out plot holes to myself, but it was too much trouble to get excited about them. No, the characters are dumber than posts, there are holes you can drive Mack trucks through, the dialog is weak, and you can't be bothered to care about these idiots one way or another. There are exactly two great moments in this film, and they are both near the end (the pile of guns and the nurse, for those poor souls who know what I'm talking about). On the DVD, they had the trailer to ``Urban Legend'' and the pair of ``I Know What You Did Last Summer'' films, ironically underlining the failed expectations of both sequels as compared to their low-concept originals. Skip, skip, skip.

Other Notes: Director proudly states he's the only editor, director, and musician; he must be proud that his directing debut is this piece of junk.

How many times I have seen it: x1

Starring: Jennifer Morrison, Matthew Davis, Hart BOchner, Loretta Devine, Eva Mendes.
Directed by: John Ottman
