Plot summary: Mentally-challenged young man who provides H2O to football players gets a little crazy and finds himself on a team.
Biased, pithy comments: Although the bar is low, this is, in fact, the finest Adam Sandler movie out there. Sandler isn't a great actor, by any means, and he can turn nearly any film into a collection of one-note skits, but this film (partially because it is awash in quality supporting thespians, including Henry Winkler, Kathy Bates, and Jerry Reed) holds together as a total story. It helps that Sandler is playing the mentally-challenged and thus doesn't need to go outside his little-boy voice and angry-shouting voice. It's still occasionally juvenile without being clever about it, but I had a good time. The over-the-top football scenes (complete with stunningly illegal tackles) were hilarious and speak to the angry loser in us all who wants to just go crazy-wild-nuts on those who hold us down.
Other Notes: Bates hamming it up in the background of one scene (when she notices she's on TV) was funny; she hardly ever lets loose like that. Co-scripted and co-produced by Sandler himself.
How many times I have seen it: x1
Starring: Adam Sandler, Kathy Bates, Henry Winkler, Fairuza Balk, Jerry Reed, Larry Gilliar Jr.
