Waterworld(1995)

Wolff rating: NOT BAD

Plot summary: Fishy trader sails around a deluged Earth searching for mythical dry land indicated by a tattoo on a young girl's back.

Biased, pithy comments: Turn off your scientific brain, hang on to your hats, and watch the movie industry wags dubbed ``Fishtar'' in reference to ``Ishtar'', another wildly-overpriced movie. Costner's wooden acting is painful and Tripplehorn can't figure out what she's doing in the movie. The kid is all right, if annoying, and Hopper is quite typecast as the bad guy. The storytelling gets rougher than the weather, and the uniqueness of ``Mad Max'' on jetskis can't quite suspend one's disbelief all the way through, but, like ``Dances With Wolves'', the movie is quite visually breathtaking and rambles entertainingly, if without any visible point.

Other Notes: ``I think I sprained my credulity on that last scene.'' ``It's a plot device! Be careful; it's flimsy.''

How many times I have seen it: x1

Starring: Kevin Costner, Jeanne Tripplehorn
