Wolff rating: MOSTLY HARMLESS
Plot summary: Annoying new patient throws himself on his new psychiatrist during the therapist's vacation.
Biased, pithy comments: What might have been a nicely loopy film with a straight man (Dreyfuss) and an amusingly crazy sidekick (Murray) instead turns into two hours of painful moments of embarassment and humiliation for the straight man at the hands of someone who seems often actively malicious. It wasn't fun, it wasn't funny, and it left you wishing that Dreyfuss really had blown Bob up, since Bob so definitely deserved it.
Other Notes: Yeah, I know, that was the point, but I don't like movies that are ``theatre of cruelty'', and no amount of intellectual interest will get around that. For much better theatre of the cruel, see ``M*A*S*H''.
How many times I have seen it: x1
Starring: Richard Dreyfuss, Bill Murray, Julie Haggerty
