Willow(1988)

Wolff rating: NOT BAD

Plot summary: Race of hobbits, er, uh, I mean Nelwyns set off to return a human baby, but get caught up in a legendary battle.

Biased, pithy comments: Though critics hated Lucas's try to make Star Wars set on land, it actually makes an enjoyable romp if you pay no attention to the cut-n-dried fantasy story and especially ignore some of the flatter characters and the heavy-handed ``woman warrior finds her place as a mother'' moral. Whoops, that was a spoiler. Oh well, you know how this one is going to come out anyhow. Special effects are good (for their time), action sequences are fun, some of the dialog is clever, and the sets were nice.

Other Notes: Nice to see Warwick Davis not in his ``Leprechaun'' makeup. A friend of one of the Nelwyn players wrote to tell me that he thought the show was great.

How many times I have seen it: x3

Starring: Warwick Davis, Val Kilmer, Joanne Whalley
Directed by: Ron Howard
