Conclusion

In this chapter we have covered both what INDIE does and a number of attributes it should have. These attributes (and their metrics) not only serve to help us think about INDIE's successes and failures, but they were guides during INDIE's development. They influenced our tool design choices and were some of the motivating reasons why we abandoned INDIE 1.0.

In the next two chapters, we will show how authors are able to make INDIE work. After these mechanics are described, the next chapter will analyze how authors used INDIE, and then the next chapter will evaluate INDIE against related educational software tools and tool-like programs. In the last chapter, we will return to the metrics above and review how well INDIE has succeeded with respect to them.
